Phillies Minor League review: July 4-10

Players of the Week
Player -- SS J.P. Crawford, Lehigh Valley… The 21-year-old Crawford batted .414 (12-29) with three doubles, two home runs, five RBIs, two walks and a 1.176 OPS in seven games. He posted four multi-hit games and has now hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games overall. Since June 18, he is batting .356 with a .402 on-base percentage, and has raised his batting average by 80 points. Crawford was selected by the Phillies in the first round (16th overall) of the 2013 MLB Draft.
Pitcher -- LHP Tyler Gilbert, Lakewood… Gilbert, 22, made one start last week and set a new career high with eight innings pitched on July 9. He held West Virginia to one run on four hits and struck out six while walking none. The southpaw has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 12 of his 15 starts this season, including each of the last four. His start last week was the ninth time this season he has walked one batter or none. Gilbert was selected by the Phillies in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of the University of Southern California.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs -- International League North Division…52-39, 2nd place… Lehigh Valley won four of its seven games last week, finishing the first half with a series win over Buffalo. The IronPigs have won or split each of their last four series heading into the All-Star break, and sit four games out of first place.
Top hitting performers -- SS J.P. Crawford was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week after batting .414 (12-29) with five extra-base hits (3 2B, 2 HR), five RBIs and two walks. He has hit safely in each of his last seven games and 11 of his last 12… INF Taylor Featherston went 9-for-27 (.333) with two doubles, three home runs, a team-high eight RBIs and four runs scored… OF Cam Perkins batted .357 (10-28), homered twice, drove in four runs, walked and stole a base… 1B Brock Stassi recorded three multi-hit games, batting .348 (8-23) with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Jake Thompson tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits in his only start of the week. He has allowed one earned run or none in six of his last seven starts-- three scoreless starts--… RHP Ben Lively made one start, surrendering five hits and a walk while striking out four over six shutout innings on July 8.
Reading Fightin Phils -- Eastern League Eastern Division …63-27, 1st place… The Fightins went 3-4, ending their week and first half by taking two of three from Bowie. In that series, Reading scored 33 runs, which included a 21-run showing on July 8. It was their first game with 20 or more runs and five or more home runs since 2007.
Top hitting performers -- 1B Rhys Hoskins drove in 14 runs in seven games, hit two doubles and three home runs, walked four times and stole a base. He posted a .704 slugging percentage for the week. Hoskins' 83 RBIs this season lead the major and minor leagues… OF Andrew Pullin batted .400 (6-15) with a double, a pair of home runs, six RBIs and four walks in four games played. His hitting streak, split between CLR and REA, reached 21 games before ending on July 9… C Jorge Alfaro had six hits in 17 at-bats (.353) and walked six times, helping him to a .526 on-base percentage for the week. He doubled, homered and knocked in two runs.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Nick Pivetta struck out six batters over five scoreless innings on July 10. It was his fourth scoreless start in his last five starts and his sixth overall this season… LHP Hoby Milner made three appearances out of the bullpen, tossing 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run, collecting seven strikeouts and earning a save.
Clearwater Threshers -- Florida State League North Division…10-8, 3rd place, 49-37 overall… Clearwater won four games, lost three and made history with a combined no-hitter on July 10 against St. Lucie. In that game, RHP Drew Anderson, RHP Will Morris and RHP Victor Arano teamed up to give the Threshers their first nine-inning no-hitter since Aug. 18, 2006.
Top hitting performers -- SS Malquin Canelo batted .310 (9-29) with a double, home run, five RBIs, a walk and two stolen bases… OF Cord Sandberg hit three doubles and a home run and walked three times while batting .320 (8-25) in seven games… CF Carlos Tocci doubled twice, drove in four runs and drew two walks, batting .318 (7-22).
Top pitching performers -- RHP Will Morris allowed one run on five hits in his six-inning start on July 5, and then tossed four innings of scoreless, hitless baseball on July 10 to help Clearwater to a combined no-hitter… RHP Victor Arano was also part of that no-hitter, tossing a scoreless inning with a strikeout. He did not allow a run and struck out five in five innings last week… RHP Shane Watson made one start, scattering four hits over seven shutout innings on July 9.
Lakewood BlueClaws -- South Atlantic League Northern Division…9-9, T-4th place, 38-49 overall… Lakewood took two of three games from Delmarva before winning three of four against West Virginia. They allowed five total runs in their five wins.
Top hitting performers -- SS Grenny Cumana recorded a pair of four-hit games and batted .423 (11-26) with two doubles, three RBIs, three walks, two stolen bases and five runs scored in seven games… 2B Josh Tobias went 7-for-23 (.304) with a double, home run, two RBIs and two walks.
Top pitching performers -- LHP Tyler Gilbert tossed eight innings on July 9, allowing just a run on four hits while striking out six and walking none. He was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week for his performance… RHP Jose Taveras struck out six and allowed two runs in his eight innings of work during his lone start of the week… RHP Franklyn Kilome tossed five innings in his start on July 6, allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven. He has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last 11 starts... RHP Sutter McLoughlin threw three perfect innings in relief with six strikeouts on July 4, and then tossed two perfect innings while collecting a save on July 9.
Williamsport Crosscutters -- New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…11-12, 3rd place… The Crosscutters were swept by Connecticut and lost the first two games of a series with Aberdeen, but snapped the losing streak with a 6-2 win in the series finale. They will play three games against Batavia to finish their homestand before embarking on a quick three-game road trip to Vermont.
Top hitting performers -- OF Jesus Alastre played in five games, batting .556 (5-9) with a double, RBI and a walk. He is hitting .414 in 11 games with Williamsport… C Henri Lartigue hit safely in all four of his games, clubbing his first professional home run on July 10… 3B Lucas Williams also hit his first professional home run and drove in three runs in four games.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Adonis Medina surrendered one run in six innings in his lone start of the week, allowing only four hits and no walks. He has a 0.94 ERA (2 ER, 28.1 IP) this season… RHP Felix Paulino allowed an unearned run on four hits in six innings against Connecticut, striking out three and walking none… LHP Ranger Suarez also allowed one unearned run in his start last week, tossing five innings with just two hits allowed.
GCL Phillies - Gulf Coast League, Northwest Division…10-3, 2nd place… The Phillies won five of their seven games (all five consecutively), averaging 9.4 runs per game (47 total runs) in those five wins. They are tied for third in the GCL with 80 runs scored this season.
Top hitting performers -- OF Jhailyn Ortiz doubled tripled, hit three home runs, drove in six runs and batted .333 (8-24) with an .833 slugging percentage in six games played… CF Mickey Moniak also batted .333 (5-15), hit his first professional home run, drove in five runs and stole a base… OF Josh Stephen batted .350 (7-20) with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and a pair of walks.
Top pitching performers -- LHP Nick Fanti threw five innings on July 7, allowing one run while striking out four. He has 17 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings pitched this season… RHP Mauricio Llovera surrendered a run on five hits in five innings of work on July 8… RHP Kevin Gowdy made his professional debut on July 9, tossing two frames with one unearned run allowed, two strikeouts and no walks.
