Phillies Minor League Review: June 4-10

Players of the Week
Player - OF Jhailyn Ortiz, Lakewood… Ortiz, 19, batted .435 (10-23) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBI, five runs scored, one stolen base and posted a 1.284 OPS in six games. He was also selected as South Atlantic League Player of the Week. Additionally, he has nine multi-hit games over his last 17 contests (since May 26), batting .369 (24-65) over that stretch. A native of the Dominican Republic, Ortiz was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on July 9, 2015.
Pitcher - LHP , Reading… The 22-year-old tossed 7.0 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and one walk in his start on June 7 at Altoona. Since April 10, he has recorded six quality starts in his last eight outings, posting a 2.25 ERA (13 ER, 52.0 IP), 0.90 WHIP and allowing only one home run in that span. The Venezuela native was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on April 1, 2012.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division… 35-27, 1st place… The IronPigs began their week on the road by sweeping Gwinnett in three games, outscoring them 16-5. Lehigh Valley then went on to take two of three games at Charlotte.
Top hitting performers - 1B Joey Meneses led the club in hits (9), total bases (19), home runs (3), RBI (10) and OPS (1.037) over six games last week. He ranks second in the International League in home runs (12) and slugging percentage (.546) this season… OF batted .412 (7-17) with one double, two RBI and three walks in five contests… 1B/C Matt McBride went 5-for-15 (.333) with a double, home run, two RBI and five runs scored in four games.
Top pitching performers - LHP Cole Irvin, who was named International League Pitcher of the Week, went 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA (3 ER, 13.0 IP) and 11 strikeouts in two starts. He has won seven consecutive starts (since May 7), during which he has posted a 1.51 ERA (8 ER, 47.2 IP), 0.90 WHIP and held opponents to a .196 batting average… RHP earned a win in his only start, allowing one run over 8.0 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. He leads all qualifying International League pitchers with a 1.63 ERA in 2018… RHP surrendered just one unearned run over 6.0 innings, while striking out six in his lone start… RHP recorded five strikeouts over 5.1 scoreless innings in his only start of the week.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division… 26-35, 5th place… Reading went 3-4 last week. Offensively, the Fightin Phils are tied for second in the league with 61 home runs this season.
Top hitting performers OF Jiandido Tromp doubled, tripled, homered, drove in five runs and scored four runs, while batting .300 (6-20) in six games… OF Cord Sandberg posted a .368/.455/.579 slash line, going 7-for-19 with a double, home run, three walks and six runs scored over six contests… SS Malquin Canelo batted .389 (7-18) with two walks and two stolen bases in five games.
Top pitching performers - LHP Ranger Suarez, the Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week, allowed just two hits and one walk over 7.0 scoreless innings, while recording nine strikeouts in his one start last week…  RHP logged two quality starts, combining to post a 2.13 ERA (3 ER, 12.2 IP) with eight strikeouts. He has tossed a quality start in each of his last four outings… LHP Jeff Singer worked 3.0 hitless innings of relief (3 games), striking out four and converting his only save opportunity.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division… 28-34, 4th place… Clearwater spent the week on the road, splitting a four-game series in Daytona and dropping two of three to Charlotte. The Threshers are 8-5 thus far in June.
Top hitting performers - OF Adam Haseley doubled, drove in four runs, stole a base and scored five runs, batting .345 (10-29) in six games. He is riding a season-high 14-game hitting streak (.344, 21-61) since May 29… OF Jose Pujols hit two doubles, two home runs, drove in five and walked twice, while batting .333 (10-30) in seven games… SS Arquimedes Gamboa batted .350 (7-20) with three doubles, a home run, two RBI, two walks and two stolen bases… INF Jose Gomez recorded multiple hits in five of his seven games, batting .400 (12-30) with a double and four RBI.
Top pitching performers - LHP Nick Fanti struck out seven over 6.0 innings, allowing only one run on five hits in his lone start… RHP Mauricio Llovera allowed one run and struck out seven during his only start (6.0 IP) of the week… RHP Felix Paulino pitched 4.0 scoreless innings in his start on June 10. He has allowed one earned run in his last 11.1 innings.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division… 37-26, 2nd place… The BlueClaws went 3-3 last week, winning each of their final two games. Lakewood also recorded its 12th shutout of the season, which leads the league.
Top hitting performers - OF Jhailyn Ortiz, the Phillies Minor League Player of the Week, clubbed five extra-base hits (3 2B, 2 HR), drove in six runs and stole a base in six games. He batted .435 (10-23) for the week… INF/OF Jake Scheiner batted .304 (7-23) with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a stolen base… OF Kevin Markham batted .333 (6-18) with two doubles, an RBI and a walk.
Top pitching performers - LHP David Parkinson tossed 5.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in his only start of the week. His 1.21 season ERA is the best mark in the South Atlantic League… LHP Zach Warren did not allow a run in 3.1 innings of relief, striking out six with no walks… LHP Kyle Dohy lowered his season ERA to 0.88 after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings last week and converting both of his save opportunities. His 16.43 SO/9.0 IP ratio (56 SO, 30.2 IP) leads all qualifying relievers in the league… LHP Will Stewart threw 6.0 innings in his start against Hagerstown, surrendering one run, while walking none. He ranks second in the league with a 1.25 ERA this season.
