Phils ink 30 picks before Draft signing deadline

July 7th, 2017

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies had until 5 p.m. Friday to sign their 2017 Draft picks.
They got 30 of them.
That group included their first 19 picks and 26 of their first 30, including No. 1 pick Adam Haseley. He is hitting .423 (11-for-26) with two doubles, two RBIs and a 1.031 OPS in seven games with short-season Class A Williamsport.
The first pick not to sign was 20th-round pick Brady Schanuel, a right-hander from Parkland Community College in Illinois.
The Phillies also signed two undrafted players, including Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) second baseman Gunnar Buhner, who is the son of former big leaguer Jay Buhner.
Velasquez's last step?
Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said right-hander Vince Velasquez is scheduled to make his third rehab start next Thursday. If it goes well, Velasquez could rejoin the rotation after that.
