Phillies sign Knapp, Sandberg

Catcher Andrew Knapp, selected by the Phillies in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, has agreed to terms with the club, Marti Wolever, Assistant General Manager, Amateur Scouting, announced today.

Knapp, 21, played for the University of California at Berkeley where he batted .350 in 54 games with 16 doubles, eight home runs, 41 RBI, 34 runs scored and a .434 on-base percentage. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound switch-hitter was named First-Team All-Pac-12 and Third-Team All-America for his 2013 season.

The Phillies also agreed to terms with third-round selection Cord Sandberg (89th overall). The 18-year-old, left-handed hitting outfielder batted .418 with a .487 on-base percentage, six doubles, two triples, one home run, 15 walks and 22 runs scored in 31 games as a senior at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla. Sandberg was selected as a 2013 Rawlings Preseason First-Team All-American prior to his senior season.

Overall, the Phillies have signed 23 of their 40 draftees, including seven of their first 11 selections.
