PHILADELPHIA -- Odubel Herrera stuffed a couple Tastykakes into his backpack before he rolled out of Citizens Bank Park on Thursday.
Maybe the sweet treats would clear his mind.
He went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts in a 2-1 victory in 11 innings over the Rockies. He is the ninth Phillies player since 1913 to strike out five times in a game. He is the fifth to punch out five times in five at-bats. Herrera has struck out in seven consecutive plate appearances dating to Wednesday and he is hitting .226 with 11 doubles, three home runs, 13 RBIs and a .614 OPS in 189 plate appearances.
His struggles are a concern, considering he is one of the team's top hitters.
"I feel that I am making good swings, but I'm just missing the pitches," Herrera said through the Phillies interpreter. "But I feel I am swinging the bat well. I'm staying positive."

Strikeouts in the third and eighth inning were wildly out of the strike zone, according to Statcast™. He swung and missed nine pitches overall. Told that some of his swings indicate he is not seeing the ball well, Herrera said, "Yeah, I don't really know what it is exactly. But I am seeing the ball well. I don't know if it's when I charge at the ball or the timing of my swing. It's definitely at that point. Maybe it has something to do with the balance of the bat and my body."
Phillies manager Pete Mackanin benched Maikel Franco twice this week for his offensive struggles. He dropped Michael Saunders to eighth in the lineup and also sat him one game for the same reason.
Could Herrera be next?
"It's a tough decision," Mackanin said. "You wonder if he needs to be in there seeing pitches and batting or does he need time off? I'll think about that."
Mackanin instead preferred to savor the Phillies' first win since Friday in Pittsburgh.
"You know what, let me enjoy this," he said. "We'll discuss that tomorrow. OK? Let me smile for a while."
