Pipeline preview: Ellis set for International League Finals start

September 14th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch Wednesday in Minor League action:
Pitcher to watch: (Braves' No. 16), Gwinnett at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Game 2 of Triple-A International League Finals (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
After spinning a gem in the International League semifinals, Ellis will look to repeat the performance in Game 2 of the Finals. The 23-year-old right-hander threw seven scoreless innings, struck out eight and gave up three hits. Ellis did throw 102 pitches (66 strikes) in his last start, but tossed 100 or more pitches nine times in the regular season, so fatigue shouldn't be an issue.

Hitter to watch: (Yankees' No. 15), Trenton at Akron, Game 2 of Eastern League Finals (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
McKinney has excelled in the postseason and Trenton will look for another big game from the outfielder as it looks to even up the Eastern League Finals at one game apiece. McKinney, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles in Game 1, is 8-for-16 in the playoffs and has two hits in four of the five games he's played.

Wednesday's top prospect probables:
• Chase De Jong (Dodgers' No. 17), Oklahoma City at El Paso, Game 2 of Triple-A Pacific Coast League Finals (El Paso leads series 1-0)
• Rob Kaminsky (Indians' No. 19), Akron vs. Trenton, Game 2 of Double-A Eastern League Finals (Akron leads series 1-0)
• Eric Skoglund (Royals' No. 24), Northwest Arkansas vs. Midland, Game 2 of Double-A Texas League Finals (Midland leads series 1-0)
