Pipeline preview: Braves' Newcomb, Rays' Guerrieri square off

April 14th, 2016

Wednesday's slate of Minor League action was highlighted by a pitchers' duel between Double-A left-handers Amir Garrett, MLBPipeline.com's No. 67 prospect, and Marlins No. 3 prospect Jarlin Garcia.
Making his second start of the season for Pensacola, Garrett, the Reds' No. 4 prospect, allowed four hits and struck out seven batters in six scoreless innings. Garcia, meanwhile, was equally sharp, as he yielded one hit and a pair of walks while striking out six in 5 2/3 innings for Jacksonville, which went on to win the game, 2-1.
Thursday's schedule of pitching matchups has the potential to produce another duel, with Braves No. 2 prospect Sean Newcomb (No. 19 overall) and Rays No. 6 prospect Taylor Guerrieri set to face off as Double-A Montgomery takes on Mississippi in a game that can be seen on MiLB.TV at 8:05 p.m. ET.
In a battle of current No. 7 prospects and former first-round Draft picks, Brewers No. 7 prospect Kodi Medeiros and Twins No. 7 prospect Kohl Stewart will take the mound for Class A Advanced Brevard County and Fort Myers, respectively, at 7:05 p.m. ET.
