Pipeline preview: Hader aims to maintain dominance for Shuckers

May 15th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch on Monday in Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Rob Refsnyder (Yankees' No. 9)
Refsnyder is finally starting to heat up after a slow start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, lifting his average to .292 after sitting near .200 for much of the season. Refsnyder, who homered twice Sunday in a 3-for-4 performance, also has been playing some outfield -- the position he played in college -- to enhance his versatility and could soon find himself with the Yankees. The Railriders face Louisville at 7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV.

Pitcher to watch: Josh Hader (Brewers' No. 4)
Hader, MLBPipeline.com's No. 57 overall prospect, hasn't allowed more than one earned run in any outing this season, entering Monday with a microscopic 1.04 ERA and a .198 average against in seven starts. The tall lefty -- he stands 6-foot-3 -- also has fanned 46 in 34 2/3 innings. Double-A Biloxi takes on Chattanooga at 7:15 p.m. ET.

Duel of the day: Mark Appel (Phillies' No. 4) vs. Austin Voth (Nationals' No. 9)
Appel continues to impress in his first season in the Phillies organization, proving that a change of scenery might help the former No. 1 overall pick reach his potential. The right-hander, MLBPipeline's No. 66 overall prospect, suffered his second loss of the season Wednesday, but is 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA in six starts.

Fellow pitching prospect Lucas Giolito gets the most publicity among Nationals pitching prospects, but Voth is another right-hander to watch. The club's 2013 fifth-round pick sits at 89-92 mph but can reach 95 with his fastball and also sports a plus slider and change. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA in six starts for Triple-A Syracuse. The IronPigs and Chiefs square off at 7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV.
