Pipeline Preview: Padres' Renfroe, Reds' Garrett headline action

April 25th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Hunter Renfroe (Padres' No. 3)
Renfroe, No. 89 on the Top 100, enters the week having hit home runs in four straight games for Triple-A El Paso. The 24-year-old outfielder is off to a red-hot start this season for the Chihuahuas, for whom he's batting .339/.381/.661 with 12 runs scored and 10 RBIs in 15 games. On Monday, Renfroe will take on rehabbing lefty Tyler Skaggs and Salt Lake in a game that can be seen on MiLB.TV at 8:35 p.m. ET.

Pitcher to watch: Amir Garrett (Reds' No. 4)
Garrett (No. 67 overall) will attempt to pick up his first win of the season for Double-A Pensacola when it hosts Jackson at 7:30 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV. Garrett has been sharp in each of his three starts for the Blue Wahoos, pitching to a 2.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 18 innings. The 23-year-old lefty has piled up 16 strikeouts in that span and walked just three batters, issuing one free pass in each outing.

Duel of the day:
Austin Brice (Marlins' No. 23) vs. Ryne Stanek (Rays' No. 18)
Brice has been a different pitcher this season in his return to Double-A Jacksonville, as he's yet to allow a run in 16 innings spanning his first three starts. More important, the 23-year-old right-hander, owner of a career rate of 5.2 BB/9, has issued just four walks (all in one start) while racking up 15 strikeouts. Stanek, meanwhile, has scuffled at times in first full, healthy season as a pro, posting a 5.68 ERA with nine walks in 12 2/3 innings at Montgomery, though he's still shown bat-missing stuff with 18 strikeouts and 12.8 K/9. The two pitchers will square off at 7:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV.
