Pirates Players & Coaches to Participate in Community Events Leading up to PirateFest

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the schedule for the Pirates Charities CARE-a-van, presented by Highmark, which will take place from Wednesday, December 11 thru Friday, December 13. The 2013 CARE-a-van will take part in 25 private community events over three days leading up to the 24th annual PirateFest, presented by T-Mobile.

A total of 15 cities in and around the greater Pittsburgh area will be impacted. The tour will include stops in Altoona, PA - home of the Pirates Double-A affiliate the Altoona Curve; Erie, Pa.; Youngstown, Ohio and Wheeling, WV. Pirates players scheduled to take part in this year's CARE-a-van includes 2013 National League Most Valuable Player Andrew McCutchen, Jaff Decker, Josh Harrison, Jared Hughes, Jeff Locke, Bryan Morris, Charlie Morton, Gaby Sanchez, Tony Sanchez, Jose Tabata, Tony Watson and Justin Wilson. The players will be joined by Pirates coaches Jeff Banister, Euclides Rojas and Rick Sofield along with broadcasters Steve Blass, Greg Brown and Tim Neverett.

The three-day CARE-a-van will feature three separate groups of players and coaches traveling to private community action events throughout the region. Pirates personnel and Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pirates, will partner with local non-profits to assist with projects and services as well as visit with schools and organizations in and around the greater Pittsburgh area.

At each visit players, coaches, broadcasters and front office employees will donate their time and talents to help make a difference in each community.
