Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, announced the all new Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K/10K, presented by Highmark and Allegheny Health Network, scheduled for Saturday, April 16, 2016. New for this year the team has added a 10K route for runners in search of an added challenge.
The morning event will take place on Pittsburgh's North Shore, starting on West General Robinson Street and all participants will have the opportunity to cross the finish line on the field at PNC Park.
Fans are encouraged to begin to register now at pirates.com/HomeRun
The race is open to fans of all ages and abilities with staggered start times beginning at 7:30 a.m. (time subject to change). Timing chips will be assigned at pre-event packet pick-up and on race morning. Competitive runners can choose to run in the 10K or 5K individually or take part in the team challenge, where teams of four runners can compete against other teams based on average overall time. Top 10K and 5K male and female individual runners in each age group (under 15, 16-19 and 10 year age groups from 20 to 70-plus), as well as top male, female and co-ed teams, will be recognized on the field at PNC Park prior to the Friday, April 29 Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds game.
Fans who do not wish to run may still participate by walking the 5K route. Families may also take part by joining the Chick-fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run. The One Mile Fun Run course also includes the route inside PNC Park and is open to families of any size.
All participants will receive a specially designed commemorative Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run medal as they cross the finish line.
