Hurdle waiting to see how Wandy feels

BALTIMORE -- Wandy Rodriguez threw 3 1/3 innings and 73 pitches on a rehab assignment at Double-A Altoona on Thursday, and Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said the left-hander felt fine afterward.

But the skipper said they want to see how Rodriguez is doing Friday, since he thinks that might show something else.

Rodriguez (right knee inflammation) has been on the DL since April 21, retroactive to April 20, and Hurdle has a reason for waiting until Friday to check on him.

"The last time this flared up, it flared up the day after he pitched," Hurdle said before Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles. "We'll know more tomorrow."

Rodriguez has an 0-2 record with a 7.65 ERA in four starts, and he had problems throughout the first month.

He also had an MRI and had fluid drained from his right knee before going on the DL.
