PITTSBURGH -- With the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon rolling through southwestern Pennsylvania on Sunday, the Pirates postponed their scheduled 1:35 p.m. ET series finale against the Marlins at PNC Park.

The Pirates made the announcement around 9:20 a.m. ET, well before game time, as the forecast called for a 100 percent chance of rain throughout the day. Right-hander Trevor Williams had been scheduled to face Marlins righty Jeff Brigham on Sunday. The Pirates won the first two games of the series, extending their winning streak to five games. On Monday, they begin a six-game road trip through St. Louis and Milwaukee.

The Pirates and Marlins have rescheduled Sunday's game for Oct. 1, one day after what would have been the final day of the regular season, at a time to be determined. The Marlins have been eliminated from the postseason race, but the Pirates have a Wild Card elimination number of 13, as they stand 7 1/2 games behind the Cardinals. It is not clear if the Oct. 1 game will be canceled if Pittsburgh is mathematically eliminated from the postseason race before then.

Williams, who owns a 0.66 ERA over his last nine starts, will now start for the Pirates on Monday at Busch Stadium. Everyone else in the rotation has been pushed back a day, so right-hander Joe Musgrove will start on Tuesday and Jameson Taillon will face the Cardinals on Wednesday. For the Marlins, Brigham will now start Monday against the Mets in New York.

Fans with tickets for Sunday's game can exchange them for any remaining home game this season, or for any April or May game at PNC Park in 2019 except for the home opener. More information is available at pirates.com/raincheck.

The Pirates had scheduled a Starling Marte jersey "Sunday Kids Day" giveaway on Sunday. That promotion will now take place for all children 14 years or younger on Sept. 21, when the Pirates host the Brewers at PNC Park.
