Pirates Roster Moves

The Pittsburgh Pirates today recalled right-handed pitcher Stolmy Pimentel from Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room for Pimentel on the 25-man active roster, right-handed relief pitcher Jared Hughes has been optioned to Double-A Altoona.

Pimentel, who has no previous big league experience, went a combined 6-9 with a 3.35 ERA (169.1ip/63er) and 123 strikeouts in 27 starts this season between Double-A Altoona and Indianapolis. He began the year with Altoona and allowed just one earned run in his first five starts (30.1ip). He also allowed three earned runs or less in his last four starts (27.1ip) with Indianapolis. Pimentel will wear uniform #38.

Pimentel was acquired by Pittsburgh along with pitcher Mark Melancon, outfielder Jerry Sands and infielder Ivan DeJesus, Jr., from the Red Sox on December 26, 2012.

To make room on the 25-man active roster for new first baseman Justin Morneau, the Pirates have optioned outfielder Andrew Lambo to Double-A Altoona.
