Pirates sign seventh-round selection Buddy Borden

The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed RHP Buddy Borden, the club's seventh-round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Director of Scouting.

Borden: (6-3/210) went 8-2 with a 2.59 ERA (1002.ip/29er) and 77 strikeouts in 15 starts as a junior this year at UNLV ... Was named a semifinalist for the inaugural Gregg Olson Award, which is presented to college baseball's breakout player-of-the-year ... Was named the 2013 Co-Mountain West Conference Pitcher-of-the-Year in 2013.

Borden will begin his professional career with the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League.

The Pirates have now signed 27 players from this year's draft.
