Pirates tab Wallace's consistent bat in 12th round

Third baseman Beau Wallace did a little bit of everything for Hinds (Miss.) Community College this past season, so the Pirates made him their 12th-round pick (359th overall) on Day 3 of the First-Year Player Draft.

Wallace hit .321 with 33 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He had 17 extra-base hits, struck out 18 times, walked 17, and stole 17 bases in 19 tries. He was even plunked with a team-high 10 pitches in 43 games.

Wallace was a second team All-State selection in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.

Before the 6-foot-1, 205-pound infielder arrived at Hinds, Wallace batted .500 in his senior year for Warren Central (Miss.) High School and earned All-State honors. He scored 39 runs and drove in 16 more in 29 games.
