Lefty Garcia to join Rangers for Spring Training

Twelve Cactus games to be broadcast on MLB.TV; regular-season single-game tix on sale Feb. 27

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have added left-handed pitcher Martire Garcia to their Spring Training roster as a Minor League invitee. Garcia enters the competition for a job as a left-handed reliever.

Garcia was signed by the Rangers a year ago after five years in the Twins' organization and two years in the Japanese independent leagues. He pitched in a total of 23 games in 2014 between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach, Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, going 2-3 with a 2.57 ERA.

Garcia averaged 6.5 hits, 5.0 walks and 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings. Opponents hit .203 off him, including .200 by left-handed batters.

The Rangers now have three left-handed relief candidates in Alex Claudio, Michael Kirkman and Garcia. Ross Detwiler could end up in the bullpen if he doesn't win a spot in the rotation.

The Rangers now have 59 players coming to Spring Training, including 19 non-roster invitees.

• The Rangers will have 12 Spring Training games broadcast on MLB.TV, beginning Sunday, March 15 against the Milwaukee Brewers at Surprise Stadium.

• The Rangers will also have 15 games broadcast on radio and eight more via free audio webcasts on texasrangers.com.

• The Rangers announced that individual tickets for all 2015 games except Opening Day will go on sale at 8 a.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 27 at the First Base Box Office, at texasrangers.com, and by phone at 972.RANGERS. The start of the Individual Ticket On-Sale will be a day earlier than was previously announced in January.
