Pompey's hit ties game in 9th for Fisher Cats
Blue Jays' No. 2 prospect finishes 4-for-8 with a homer and 3 RBIs in 16-inning contest
Dalton Pompey wasn't the hero in Double-A New Hampshire's 6-5 extra innings loss to Portland on Thursday night, but he gave it a good shot.
The Blue Jays' No. 2 prospect (No. 35 overall) finished 4-for-8 with a home run and three RBIs, including a two-out, game-tying single in the ninth inning that sent the contest to extras. But that wasn't enough for the Fisher Cats, who fell to the Sea Dogs in 16 innings after Marco Hernandez scored on Cody Burns' wild pitch.
Pompey has been on an absolute tear over the past seven games. In that span, he's gone 16-for-33 (.485) with two dingers and six RBIs.
The center fielder has played at three different levels this season -- including beginning the season with the big league club -- but he has been the most productive for New Hampshire. He's hitting a scalding .389 with six homers and 19 RBIs in 21 games since he joined the club on June 6. Still 22 years old, the Ontario native made his Major League debut last September and hit .193 in 83 at-bats with the Blue Jays this year.
