Twins claim Edgar García, recall Griffin Jax
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Edgar García from the Cincinnati Reds and recalled right-handed pitcher Griffin Jax from Triple-A St. Paul.
García, 24, appeared in five games for the Reds this season, allowing 10 runs (8 earned) on 10 hits in 4.1 innings pitched with one walk and four strikeouts. Over parts of three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays and Reds, he has gone 2-1 with a 7.14 ERA (46.2 IP, 37 ER), one save, 31 walks and 50 strikeouts in 46 relief appearances. He will be assigned to Triple-A St. Paul.
Jax, who will make the start tonight in St. Louis, made seven starts for the Saints this season, going 4-1 with a 3.32 ERA (38.0 IP, 14 ER), 11 walks and 34 strikeouts. The 26-year-old has appeared in six games (2 starts) for the Twins this season, going 1-1 with a 7.48 ERA (21.2 IP, 18 ER), nine walks and 20 strikeouts.
