Prospect Davis homers in 6th straight game

J.D. Davis, the Astros' No. 13 prospect, continued his power surge on Sunday for Class A Advanced Lancaster, homering for the sixth consecutive game in an 8-0 win over High Desert.

Davis connected on a two-run shot in the fifth inning off left-hander Felix Carvallo and finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. The 22-year-old third baseman has gone deep once in each game during the streak, which began on Tuesday against Bakersfield, and he is 12-for-26 with 15 RBIs overall.

Even before the streak, Davis was on a tear. Over his last 15 games, he is batting .379 with six doubles, nine homers, 28 RBIs and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

"These last two, three weeks of success, I've been really being patient and disciplined in my approach, sticking to what I do best, and that's driving the ball to right-center," Davis told MiLB.com after extending his streak to four games on Friday. "I'm really searching for a pitch, not really chasing for anything pitchers are giving me to chase out of the zone."

A two-way player at Cal State Fullerton, Davis was selected in the third round of the 2014 Draft by Houston, which chose to develop him at third base. The right-handed batter split 73 games between the Astros' Class A Tri-City and Quad Cities affiliates in his first professional season, and has spent all of 2015 with Lancaster in the California League. In 103 games there, he is hitting .285 with 25 doubles, 22 homers and 88 RBIs, though he has also struck out 133 times in 417 at-bats.
