The Trade Deadline season kicked off with a doozy, as the highly anticipated deal sending All-Star Manny Machado to the Dodgers officially became a reality the day after the All-Star Game.

In a straight prospect trade, the Cardinals and Indians swapped three outfielders, two of whom ranked on our Top 30 Prospects lists. The son of former big leaguer Mike Capel, Conner (No. 14 on our Cleveland Top 30) has a chance to have solid tools across the board. He's batting .261/.355/.388 with 15 steals in 89 games in high Class A at age 21. Mercado (No. 10 on our St. Louis Top 30) saw his career take off when he moved from shortstop to center field in mid-2016. His plus speed and arm strength play well in center and he has been more relaxed at the plate. He's hitting .285/.351/.408 with 31 steals in 100 Triple-A games at age 23.

The Brewers got a major upgrade at second base in exchange for their incumbent and two members of MLB Pipeline's Milwaukee Top 30. Ortiz (No. 7 on the Top 30) was a Rangers first-round pick in 2014 and joined the Brewers in a 2016 deadline deal for Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremey Jeffress. The 22-year-old has a 92-97 mph fastball and a sharp slider but also has a track record of nagging injuries. He has posted a 3.71 ERA with a 65/18 K/BB ratio in 68 Double-A innings. Carmona (No. 14) is a Dominican with solid defensive skills at shortstop and speed to match, though his bat will need time to develop. Just 18, he's batting .239/.298/.406 in Rookie ball. A 2017 All-Star who won't be a free agent until after 2019, Schoop is a power-hitting second baseman who plays sound defense.

The Braves gave up four prospects to get Gausman (O'Day was a salary dump), but only two of them ranked on our Atlanta Top 30: Encarnacion at No. 14 and Cumberland at No. 30. Encarnacion has plus raw power and arm strength and some feel for the barrel. The 20-year-old is hitting .288/.314/.463 with 10 homers in 97 games in low Class A. An offensive-minded catcher whose power is his best tool, the 23-year-old Cumberland is batting .228/.357/.389 with 11 homers in 87 contests between high Class A and Double-A. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2012 Draft, the 27-year-old Gausman has developed into a reliable big league starter but not the ace the Orioles hoped for. Under team control through the 2020 season, he has gone 5-8 with a 4.43 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 124 innings. He has a 92-96 mph fastball but his splitter is usually his most effective pitch.

Huang (No. 22 on MLB Pipeline's Diamondbacks Top 30) has revitalized his career after moving to the bullpen in 2017. The 24-year-old right-hander has used a mid-90s fastball and downer curveball to log a 2.31 ERA, .181 opponent average and 78 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings between high Class A and Double-A. Diekman, a pending free agent at age 31, is a sinker/slider left-hander who works in the mid-90s and has a 3.69 ERA in 47 appearances.

To get a former All-Star in Dozier, the Dodgers surrendered three players but only one Top 30 Prospect: Raley, No. 19 on our Los Angeles Top 30. The 23-year-old Raley offers left-handed power potential and the ability to play all three outfield spots. He's hitting .275/.345/.477 with 17 homers in 93 Double-A games. The 31-year-old Dozier is having his worst season as a regular as he approaches free agency, but he'll upgrade the Dodgers offensively and defensively at second base.

He lacks the arm strength desired at shortstop, so he's facing a future as an offensive second baseman or a utilityman. Maybin, 31 and a free agent at season's end, brings defense and experience to Seattle.

The Indians needed outfield help and the Tigers continued their rebuild with this one, adding a young and talented middle infielder to a farm system that has come a long way in the last year. Castro has been a little up-and-down in 2018, but he also was just 21 years old and playing in Double-A for the first time. The switch-hitter has the chance to hit for average with double-digit home run power, while also being able to steal bases. He's improved his defensive consistency as well, giving him a very good chance of being an everyday shortstop in the big leagues in the future.

The Cardinals dealt Pham for three prospects, including two ranked in Tampa Bay's Top 30 in Williams (No. 14) and Cabrera (No. 25). Williams, 22, recently got his first taste of the Major Leagues, logging an at-bat as a pinch-hitter on July 21 before returning to Triple-A Durham, where he'd posted a .258/.313/.376 line with eight homers and 18 doubles in 94 games. He profiles as an everyday left fielder at the highest level, one who hits for average as well as some power. The 21-year-old Cabrera has struggled with his control this season at Double-A Montgomery, issuing a career-high 57 walks in 113 2/3 innings, but he also generated 124 strikeouts and held hitters to a .218 clip on the strengths of his mid-90s fastball and hard, swing-and-miss slider. Ramirez, a right-handed reliever, owned a 2.53 ERA with 60 strikeouts and 17 walks in 53 1/3 innings across two levels at the time of the trade. Pham, meanwhile, has struggled this season after a breakout 2017 campaign, hitting .248/.331/.399 with 14 homers and 10 steals over 98 games with St. Louis. The 30-year-old outfielder is arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason and will not be eligible for free agency until after 2021.

Hearn (No. 7 on our Pirates Top 30) is a left-hander who can reach triple digits with his fastball and flash a plus changeup, though he'll need to upgrade his slider, control and command to remain a starter. He has been overpowering in Double-A this year, with 107 strikeouts and a .198 opponent average in 104 innings. Kela is a capable closer with a mid-90s fastball and a power curveball. He had 24 saves in 25 opportunities in Texas and won't be eligible for free agency until after the 2021 season.

Both Buttrey (No. 19) and Jerez (No. 23) were ranked in the Red Sox's Top 30 prospects at the time of the trade. Buttrey, 25, has steadily upped his fastball velocity to the high 90s in the pros, touching 101, and pairs it with a circle change and slider. Though he has struggled with command in the past, he has posted career-best strikeout (13.1 K/9) and walk (2.9 BB/9) rates and a dominant 2.25 ERA this season with Triple-A Pawtucket. Jerez, 26, is a former second-round pick who has posted strong numbers at every level of the Minor Leagues. He has a 3.63 ERA and a high strikeout rate (11.9 K/9) in 52 innings out of the Pawtucket bullpen this season and has demonstrated marked improvement against righties after adding a splitter to his sinking fastball and slider. Kinsler, a 13-year veteran, is hitting .320 in July and will give the Red Sox a reliable presence at second in Dustin Pedroia's absence.

De Jong, the Mariners' No. 28 prospect at the time of the trade, doesn't have elite stuff, but does have a good feel for his pitches as well as a delivery that creates deception. De Jong has spent the 2018 season with Double-A Arkansas, where he has gone 5-5 with a 3.80 ERA. Costello is hitting .266 with Class A Clinton and was a 31st-round pick in the 2017 Draft. Duke, whom the Twins signed as a free agent prior to the season, appeared in 45 games this season and posted a 3.62 ERA. The lefty hasn't allowed a home run this season (37 1/3 innings) and will give the Mariners an added veteran presence in the bullpen.

Perez, the Astros' 10th-ranked prospect, had emerged as one of the better arms in Houston's system. The right-hander has a fastball that ranges from 93-99 mph in addition to wipeout breaking pitches. Paulino, 24, has spent a brief amount of time in the Majors in 2016 and 2017, but has been in the Minors this season. Paulino began the year with Triple-A Fresno where he posted a 5.50 ERA over four starts before being placed on the disabled list. He's currently in the GCL on a rehab assignment. Giles picked up 61 saves over the past three seasons for the Astros, but struggled this season and was optioned to Triple-A on July 11. Osuna collected nine saves in 15 games earlier this season, but is currently serving a 75-game suspension and is eligible to be reinstated on Sunday. u5:p

Gallegos, 26, made 20 appearances, all out of the bullpen, with the Yankees over the past two seasons, posting a 4.75 ERA with a 9.5 K/9 rate. Now the Cardinals' No. 21 prospect, the righty doesn't have a particularly high ceiling but could become a middle reliever for the Cards. Shreve, the other player going to St. Louis in the trade, has recorded a lifetime 3.71 ERA in five big league seasons, though he struggles to limit walks (lifetime 4.4 BB/9) and homers (lifetime 1.6 HR/9). Voit, a righty hitting first baseman, owns a career .934 OPS at the Triple-A level, but he has had trouble breaking through in the Majors and is already 27 years old.

Over the past two seasons, Phillips has played in 52 games for the Brewers and hit .257. Lopez is also in Colorado Springs where he has a 5.65 ERA through 24 appearances and, like Phillips, has Major League experience, having pitched in 10 games with the Brewers. Moustakas is hitting .249 through 98 games, has 20 homers and leads the Royals with 62 RBIs.

Alcala (No. 10) and Celestino (No. 15) were both ranked among the Astros' Top 30 prospects at the time of the trade. Alcala has an upper-90s fastball with life, but his secondary pitches still need some development. The right-hander spent time at both the Class A Advanced and Double-A levels this season and posted a 3.29 ERA through 79 1/3 innings. Celestino has a strong arm and good instincts in center field and has hit .271 over the past three seasons, since he was signed out of the Dominican Republic. Pressly, who has a 3.40 ERA in 51 games, will help strengthen the Astros bullpen. The right-hander has accumulated 69 strikeouts and issued just 19 walks.

The right-hander has struggled with his command at times, but has really good pure stuff. Kilome's fastball consistently reaches the upper-90s and his curveball can be a plus pitch as well. Cabrera, a 12-year veteran, is hitting .277/.329/.488 through 98 games this season.

D-backs' Top 30 | Twins' Top 30
Duran, whom the D-backs signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2015, is making his full-season debut this season and was pitching with Class A Kane County prior to the trade. With the Cougars, Duran went 5-4 with a 4.73 ERA. Macial, 19, was also playing with Kane County and had been performing well. Through 68 games, the most he's ever played professionally, he was hitting .287. Maciel is a switch-hitter who knows how to control the strike zone, but power is not yet a part of his game. Trinidad, a 19th-round pick from the 2017 Draft, has been able to hit earlier in his professional career. Through 141 games over two seasons, he's slashing .306/.396/.468. Escobar, who can play all over the field, has played in 97 games this season and is hitting .274 with 37 doubles (tops in MLB). The eight-year vet has spent his entire career in the American League, but has hit .274 through 107 career games against NL opponents.

In 31 appearances at the Class A Advanced level this season, Elledge has posted a 1.17 ERA with a 12.7 K/9 rate.

McKinney, 23, made his MLB debut on Opening Day but played in just two games with the Yankees before going on the disabled list with a left shoulder sprain and being sent down. He's bounced back from the injury and shown good power in Triple-A this year with 13 homers, 32 RBIs and a .273 ISO in 54 games. McKinney hit well in Triple-A last year as well, slashing .306/.336/.541 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs in 55 games. Accordingly, the former first-round draft choice has the skills to be a quality outfielder for Toronto and appears likely to return to the Majors later this year. MLB Pipeline now rates him as the Blue Jays' No. 18 prospect.

The 22-year-old left-hander could get a chance to start with the White Sox at some point. Perez, meanwhile, is a bit further away from the Majors. In eight starts with the Dominican Summer League Brewers in '18, the 20-year-old righty has recorded a 2.01 ERA with a 10.5 K/9 rate.

Wall, who now rates as Toronto's No. 24 prospect, has struggled in his first taste of Double-A this year, batting .206/.289/.359 with six homers and eight steals in 46 games. The tools are there, however, as he's flashed power, speed and plate discipline, so look for the 22-year-old to improve as he gains more experience and adjusts to the competition. Spanberger has wielded a potent bat in Class A this year, hitting .315/.363/.579 with 22 homers and 75 RBIs in 92 games. The 22-year-old slugger has also shown good speed with 16 steals in 20 attempts, although he may need to improve his plate discipline to become a Major League-caliber hitter, as his career strikeout-to-walk ratio is nearly 4-to-1.

Sandoval has emerged as a solid pitching prospect in Class A ball this year, going 9-1 with a 2.56 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP in 88 innings combined between two levels of Class A. He's also taken a major step forward with his command, lowering his walk rate to 1.5 BB/9 and posting a 6.5 K/BB ratio. While the 21-year-old southpaw is still likely a couple years away from reaching the Majors, his ability to miss bats and limit walks could help him evolve into a quality arm.

Shaffer is the better prospect in this deal, ranked No. 23 on the D-backs list before being dealt. The right-hander has excellent command and had 109 strikeouts (compared to just 21 walks) with Class A Kane County before the trade. Perez, 25, hit .284 through 58 games with Triple-A Reno. Andriese will give the D-backs another bullpen option down the stretch. The 28-year-old has a 4.07 ERA this season and can also give the D-backs a bit of length as he's thrown two or more innings 16 times this season, which is tied for the second-highest total in baseball among relievers.

While Beeks has struggled in his brief time in the Majors (nine earned runs in 6 1/3 innings), he has quality stuff that he has utilized better this season. He may just need a bit more time in Triple-A. The lefty has a low-90's fastball that plays above its velocity because of its spin rate and deception and he also has a slow curveball to give batters a different look. Eovaldi strengthens the Red Sox rotation for the final months of the season. Eovaldi also gives Boston some flexibility in its pitching staff as he has previously worked out of the bullpen as well.

Tate, a first-round pick back in 2015, was the headliner of the deal. The 24-year-old sits in the mid-90s and has the potential to feature three plus offerings. Tate throws strikes with all four of his pitches, but doesn't miss a ton of bats and still has to prove his durability as he's missed time with hamstring issues (2016), shoulder troubles (2017) and a quad injury (2018). Carroll became a full-time reliever in 2017 and has excelled out of the bullpen. After starring in the Arizona Fall League, Carroll posted a 2.38 ERA through 32 appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before he was dealt. Rogers, a 24-year-old lefty is 6-8 with a 3.95 ERA through 19 starts at the Triple-A level. Britton, who has a 3.45 ERA and is 4-for-5 in save opportunities this season, helps strengthen the Yankees bullpen as the club continues to fight the Red Sox in the AL East.

Toffey, a fourth-round pick out of Vanderbilt in 2017, was the lone prospect involved in the deal that landed Familia with the A's. Toffey was batting .244 with Class A Advanced Stockton before the deal, and the 26-year-old Wahl posted a 2.27 ERA with Triple-A Nashville this season. Familia, an All-Star closer in 2016, sported a 2.88 ERA with the Mets this season.

Mejia is still considered one of the best hitting prospects in baseball, a reason why he's No. 15 on the Top 100. San Diego managed to land Mejia for Hand, who was a 2016 waiver claim from the Marlins, and Cimber, a '13 ninth-round pick and submariner who is a 27-year-old rookie.
