Ynoa, Wolters step up against D-backs

March 27th, 2016

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Rafael Ynoa and Tony Wolters helped their case for roster spots as the pair combined to drive in five runs as the Rockies beat the D-backs, 8-6, in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Salt River Fields.
Ynoa's three-run double highlighted a five-run third inning against D-backs starter Rubby De La Rosa.

"Rubby was not very good today," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "The contact was very hard against him. The best thing that happened today was that he threw 94 pitches."
The D-backs spotted De La Rosa a 2-0 lead in the first on back-to-back doubles from David Peralta and Yasmany Tomas.

The Rockies cut the lead in half in the second when Wolters drove home a run with a double to left.
Christian Bergman, who could be part of the Rockies' Opening Day rotation unless they decide to go with a four-man rotation to start the season, settled down after the first inning, but the D-backs rallied for three runs off him in the fifth.
"I'm learning to do some different things the more times I go through the lineup," Bergman said. "That was one of my goals today, work on different sequences. For the most part, sequences were right. The results weren't very good, but there were some positives."

Two of those runs came on Paul Goldschmidt's third homer of the spring.
D-backs up next: Right-hander Kyle Drabek pitches against the Giants at 7:05 p.m. MST on Monday in Scottsdale in a matchup available live on MLB.TV. Drabek, who has already been sent to Minor League camp, is pitching because the club doesn't want Robbie Ray to start twice in a row against a National League West rival. Goldschmidt will also be in the lineup for the D-backs.
Rockies up next: Right-hander Jordan Lyles, who threw four scoreless innings in his last Cactus League outing but struggled against Minor Leaguers the last time he pitched, is scheduled for 90 pitches Monday against the White Sox at 2:10 p.m. MT at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The game will be available live on MLB.TV.
