Rain washes out Rockies' game vs. D-backs

DENVER -- The Rockies and D-backs sat through a 2-hour and 30-minute rain delay before postponing Monday night's opener of a three-game series. No makeup date has been determined.

Wet forecasts the next two days led the clubs to attempt to wait for a window wide enough to play, but one never materialized.

Both teams have pushed back their pitching a day. Rockies lefty Tyler Matzek (2-0, 2.70 ERA) will face D-backs righty Josh Collmenter (2-3, 2.76) Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. MT. On Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. MT, Rockies righty Jordan Lyles (2-2, 4.25) will face D-backs lefty Robbie Ray, who will be making his 2015 debut.

Matzek had already received an extra day of rest when the Rockies switched the rotation to go with Kyle Kendrick on Sunday at San Diego in an 8-6 Rockies loss. Matzek last pitched last Monday against the D-backs. He was the winner in the 5-4 decision, but left after five innings because of cramping in his left hamstring. Now he will have had a full week of rest.

The Rockies will be looking to end their losing streak at five games.

"I check in with the players routinely, individually, as a team, just make sure our heads are in the right place and that we continue to compete," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "They do that well. If we continue to do that, we'll have success."
