CINCINNATI -- When reliever Raisel Iglesias faced Reds prospects hitters in the Futures Game on Friday in Louisville, it was his first game action in 17 days.
Iglesias, who was injured from a fall in the shower that left him with a bone bruise in right elbow and sore hips, had no issues after throwing one scoreless inning with one strikeout.
"I feel 100 percent now thanks to the medical staff and the trainers and the exercises," Iglesias said Sunday through translator Julio Morillo before a Reds pre-Opening Day workout. "I feel ready to go for Opening Day and hopefully I stay healthy for the rest of the season."
Iglesias, 27, felt no ill-effects on the mound from his time off.
"I feel great," he said. "I felt strong enough and my pitches were there. I wasn't worried I was going to be all around the plate. My control was there. My pitches were there. The command was there and I was throwing strikes."
Reds manager Bryan Price entered Spring Training with a plan to use relievers like Iglesias and Michael Lorenzen for multiple innings to finish games this season. For the short term, Price might have to modify his plans.
"I could see him finishing an inning and throwing another one," Price said. "I probably would be reluctant to have him finish the seventh and run the table through the ninth just because of the time off. But he will get to that place."
Roster moves
The Reds made some expected moves Sunday to put players on the disabled list and set their 25-man Opening Day roster.
Starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani (right elbow sprain), catcher Devin Mesoraco and relievers Nefi Ogando (right hand strain) and Austin Brice (ulnar neuritis) were placed on the 10-day DL. Pitcher Nick Travieso was placed on the 60-day disabled list, which opened a spot for bench player Patrick Kivlehan to be added to the 40-man roster. The Brice, Ogando and Mesoraco moves are retroactive to March 30.
Pitcher Bronson Arroyo, who was scheduled to pitch a Minor League tune-up in Arizona on Sunday afternoon, was formally assigned to Triple-A Louisville. However, Arroyo already had a locker and uniform set up in the Reds' clubhouse.
Fluid timetable for Mesoraco
When asked when Mesoraco might debut, Price did not provide a timetable, partially because it could change. Mesoraco is still rehabilitating from right hip and left shoulder surgeries performed last season. He had been increasing his workload of catching at Spring Training without problems.
"We've got a template that's drawn up. It can be accelerated. It can be pushed back," Price said. "Certainly when he starts the 20-day [rehab assignment], he has 20 days to be ready to go unless he has a setback. We are going to get him to the point where he is going to play his back-to-back nine-inning games. If we feel he's conditioned to catch three-straight nine-inning games, he would be capable of doing that comfortably."
