Rancho Cucamonga wins California League

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Class A Advanced affiliate of the Dodgers, won the California League championship with a 9-1 victory over Visalia (D-backs' Class A Advanced affiliate) at LoanMart Field on Friday night.

The Quakes got home runs from first baseman Nick Yarnall, center fielder Jeren Kendall (the Dodgers No. 9 prospect), third baseman and No. 24 prospect Cristian Santana (championship series Most Valuable Player) and left fielder Donovan Casey. On the mound, right-hander Isaac Anderson started and tossed six strong innings, yielding just one hit while walking one and striking out six.
Rancho Cucamonga then turned to the bullpen, getting strong performances from five relievers, including , the veteran Major League right-hander who is on a rehab assignment. Axford gave up a run on one hit, walking one and fanning one in two-thirds of an inning. Logan Salow (1/3 inning), Tony Cingrani (1), (2/3) and Parker Curry (1/3) closed things out.
Visalia's lone RBI came when D-backs' No. 7 prospect Marcus Wilson doubled off Axford in the seventh.
It was a good night for the Dodgers at several organizational levels, with the Major League club defeating the Cardinals in St. Louis to move into a tie for the second National League Wild Card spot, and the organization's Double-A affiliate, the Tulsa Drillers, winning the Texas League title.
