Rangers adjust to keep Yu on regular rest

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have adjusted their rotation so that Yu Darvish will pitch on five days' rest and Nick Tepesch will get extra time off.

Darvish, who pitched Sunday, is now scheduled to start Friday, with Tepesch following him on Saturday. Tepesch lasted two innings in his last start, on Saturday against the Nationals.

The Rangers were off on Monday and normally use their off-days to give all their starters extra rest. But Darvish had missed his previous start because of neck stiffness, so the Rangers didn't feel he needed extra rest. He is also 4-1 with a 1.66 ERA in his last five starts.

"If we get another day off, he may get an extra day," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "He didn't throw that many pitches on Sunday, so that's good."

Darvish threw 102 pitches against the Nationals over eight innings, while holding them scoreless on five hits and two walks. He struck out 12 and has 41 strikeouts over his past four games.
