Beltre undergoes left thumb surgery

Rangers third baseman expected to be ready for Spring Training

ARLINGTON -- Third baseman Adrian Beltre had surgery on his left thumb Friday in Los Angeles. The prognosis is a full recovery by Spring Training.

Beltre damaged a ligament in his thumb sliding into second base on May 31 against the Red Sox. He spent three weeks on the disabled list and played the rest of the season dealing with discomfort.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Shin and included the removal of scar tissue. Beltre enters the 2016 season in the final year of his six-year contract.
