The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has agreed to terms with catcher Robinson Chirinos on a one-year contract for the 2016 season. No further terms were disclosed.
Chirinos had been eligible for salary arbitration. With this agreement, the Rangers now have four remaining players eligible for salary arbitration: left-handed pitcher Jake Diekman, first baseman Mitch Moreland, and right-handed pitchers Tanner Scheppers and Shawn Tolleson.
Chirinos batted .232 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI in 78 games with the Rangers last season, making a team-high 73 starts behind the plate. He was limited over the season's final two months due to a left shoulder strain, but started 3 of 5 games in the American League Division Series against Toronto.
