CLEVELAND -- Rangers manager Jeff Banister announced before Tuesday's game against the Indians that right-hander Andrew Cashner will be activated from the disabled list on Thursday to start the series finale between the two clubs at Progressive Field.
Cashner -- who was placed on the 10-day DL with a left oblique strain on June 17 -- will make his first start since June 14. After he threw 41 pitches in a bullpen session on Saturday, Cashner threw another bullpen side on Monday.
"Plans are for him to start on Thursday," Banister said. "[He] made it through the bullpen [Monday] and felt good today."
In his last start, Cashner was handed a loss after he allowed four runs on 10 hits in four innings pitched against the Astros. Cashner said his rehab went very well and that he will be ready to go on Thursday.
"I feel like I'm good," Cashner said. "I threw two bullpens and the pain has gone away. I'm looking forward to getting back out there."
In 12 starts this season, Cashner has gone 3-6 with a 3.50 ERA in 69 1/3 innings of work. Although his record isn't where he wants it to be, Cashner is happy with the way he has pitched.
"The biggest thing for me is getting first-pitch strikes," Cashner said. "If I don't get the first one in there, I'll get the second one in there with my sinker. I think I've expanded when I need to expand and I've been able to get the double-play ball when I need it."
Cashner added it was hard for him to not be able to help the team while he was out with his injury.
"It's tough to watch," he said. "These last couple of days in New York, we were playing good. Yesterday was a tough game, but I have a chance to get back out there and compete."
Rangers beat
• Outfielder Carlos Gomez was not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game, as he was experiencing back soreness. Banister said Gomez felt the pain in Monday's game, and came out in the bottom of the eighth. The skipper said that the team will take Gomez's injury day to day.

"There is always concern when a guy is unavailable to play," Banister said. "Now I know that he is going through the treatment process. I think we were smart enough to get him out last night, and he was smart enough to let us know that he was a little banged up."
• Banister said either Austin Bibens-Dirkx or Nick Martinez will start Friday's series opener against the White Sox, and Cole Hamels and Tyson Ross, will start Saturday and Sunday, respectively. In addition, Banister said Martin Perez -- who is on the 10-day DL with a fracture laceration of his right thumb -- could return to the rotation as early as next week.
