Rangers C Konrad Schmidt Clears Waivers

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced today that catcher Konrad Schmidt has cleared waivers and been assigned outright to Triple-A Round Rock.  Schmidt will still be invited to major league spring training camp.

Schmidt, 28, was acquired by Texas in a November 1 waiver claim from Arizona.  He appeared in 4 games for the Diamondbacks last season and spent the rest of the year at Triple-A Reno, batting .277 with 7 home runs, 24 doubles, and 47 RBI in 93 contests.  He had spent his entire career in the Arizona organization since being signed as a minor league free agent in 2007.  Schmidt has 8 career games in the majors, all in 2010 and 2012, combining to go 1-for-15 with 2 RBI.

With this transaction, the Rangers now have 39 players on the club’s 40-man roster along with 14 non-roster invitations to major league spring training camp.
