Texas is intrigued by the possibility of using that power out of the bullpen.

"Obviously, he has a great arm," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "Sometimes that plays up in a bullpen role. We still feel he has the ability to start long term. Where we are in the calendar, it makes sense to see what our internal options are."

The Rangers have been looking at ways to improve their bullpen with Tony Barnette and Jeremy Jeffress on the disabled list. They recently added veterans Ernesto Frieri and Tanner Scheppers, and the bullpen could be an area addressed before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline.

Nomar Mazara was out of the lineup for the second straight day with a bruised right forearm. He was hit by a pitch thrown by Aroldis Chapman on Friday night. Mazara said he could play on Sunday, but the Rangers wanted to give him an extra day.

• The Rangers have announced Yu Darvish will start on Wednesday against the Indians. He left Friday's start against the Yankees with tightness in his triceps, but he is ready to go.

Andrew Cashner, on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Monday. If that goes well, he could start against the Indians on Thursday. Otherwise, it will be Austin Bibens-Dirkx.

• Barnette is being assigned to Triple-A Round Rock on a rehab assignment. He is scheduled to pitch one inning on Tuesday and two innings on Thursday against Nashville and then be re-evaluated.
