SEATTLE -- The Twins and Angels are leaving a door open for the Rangers in the American League Wild Card race. The Rangers aren't in position yet, but their postseason hopes are still alive, and a little stronger than they were a few days ago.
The Rangers continued their revival with an 8-6 victory over the Mariners on Wednesday night, their third win in a row. That streak comes at a time when the Twins were swept in a three-game series to the Yankees and the Angels lost the first two games of their series against the Indians.
Despite being one game below .500, the Rangers are now 2 1/2 games behind the Twins for the second Wild Card spot -- two in the loss column -- and one behind the Angels with 11 left to play.

"I know other teams have been losing," outfielder Nomar Mazara said. "We still have 11 more games, and we are going to finish it. We are going to go game by game and not give up … still do our best to win games. We don't know what is going to happen, but we are not going to give up."
The Rangers will need help, because they have no games remaining against the Twins or Angels. But the possibility is there.
"I'm not even looking at that, I'm just trying to win every game," outfielder Shin-Soo Choo said. "I'm just looking forward to every game. We still have a chance. You never know."
The Rangers have one more game against the Mariners on Thursday, while the Angels will wrap up their series vs. the Indians. The Twins open a four-game series against the Tigers in Detroit on Thursday.
The Twins play seven of their last 10 games against the struggling Tigers. But they also have a three-game series against the Indians that starts on Monday in Cleveland.
The Rangers are in Oakland this weekend for three games against the A's. They close out the season with three against the Astros and four against the A's at home.
The Angels are on the road for three games at Houston and four against the White Sox, before closing out at home with three against the Mariners.
The team that claims the second Wild Card spot would currently have to face the Yankees in the AL Wild Card Game on Oct. 3 in New York.
"We've got 11 to play," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "We still have some yard work to do. We have to go out and continue to play good baseball. We have to continue to play positive baseball and take our shot."
