ARLINGTON -- Fresh off a month in which they hit 41 homers, the second-most in the Majors in July and the fifth-most in club history, the Rangers continued their homer-happy ways as the calendar flipped to August. They hit home runs Tuesday, as Rougned Odor hit his 24th long ball, and Joey Gallo connected on a pair of homers in the Rangers' 8-7 loss to the Mariners.
Gallo's first shot landed on the roof over the center field batter's eye at Globe Life Park.
"It's pretty cool," Gallo said. "I can't even get it up there in [batting practice,] and I've tried before."
His second one wasn't as jaw-dropping, but Gallo's three-run shot in the sixth inning meant more in the context of the game. Gallo has gone deep five times in his last eight games, and six times in his last 11 games.

Odor, meanwhile, was coming off a month in which he hit 10 home runs, the second-most in the Majors. He went deep in the fourth, giving him four homers in a span of nine plate appearances and seven home runs in his last nine games.
"The power has shown up. Obviously, you saw [Gallo] tonight. Loved the at-bats, staying on the pitches," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "[Odor], kind of the mixture of the power and some base hits. He seems to be sparking at this point and really staying on pitches. He's looking to keep the ball in the middle of the field but pulling the ball when it needs to be pulled. That's encouraging with those two guys."
The combined efforts of Gallo and Odor weren't enough to overcome a pair of five-run deficits Seattle put them in. The loss drops them six games under .500 and on the verge of falling out of the American League Wild Card race.
