Profar headed for MRI on right shoulder
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Rangers second baseman Jurickson Profar is having more issues with his right shoulder.
Profar was scratched from Sunday's game against the Padres with more soreness in the shoulder, and he was sent for an MRI exam. Profar came into camp dealing with tendinitis in the shoulder, and he didn't start playing in the field until March 17. He has played just four games at second base -- and only one with shortstop Elvis Andrus.
"I don't think that will be a problem," Andrus said. "We know each other. It was a huge help getting a chance to play with him last year. We had quite a few games together. I know what he likes, and he knows the same with me. We'll be fine together."
Adam Rosales started at second base in place of Profar, and he committed a first-inning error that led to five runs scored off starter Joe Saunders. It's the second straight game Rosales failed to make a defensive play that led to a big inning.
Andrus, who hasn't played shortstop since March 17, has been dealing with a sore elbow and is on a seven-day throwing program that began Saturday. Unless the Rangers accelerate the plan, Andrus won't go back to shortstop until the final exhibition game against the Astros on Saturday in San Antonio.
