Rangers option outfielder Leonys Martin to Round Rock; purchase contract of outfielder Ryan Strausborger from Round Rock

Wandy Rodriguez placed on unconditional release waivers

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has optioned outfielder Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock and purchased the contract of outfielder Ryan Strausborger (#20) from Round Rock.

Strausborger, 27, will be in uniform tonight seeking his major league debut. He has spent the season at Round Rock, batting .278 (96-345) with 10 home runs, 21 doubles, and 34 RBI in 86 games. The right-handed batter and thrower has been successful on 27 of 32 steal attempts, the 3rd-highest steals total in the Pacific Coast League. He has batted .306 (38-124) against left-handed pitchers and has seen action at all three outfield positions. He leads the Express in runs (54), hits, and doubles, and ranks 5th on the club in RBI. Over his last 23 games beginning July 7, Strausborger has hit .299 (29-97) with 2 home runs, 8 doubles, and 15 RBI. He was originally selected by the Rangers in the 16th round of the 2010 June draft.

Martin has batted .220 with 5 home runs and 25 RBI in 94 games/71 starts for Texas this season. He leads the major leagues with 13 outfield assists.

With the addition of Strausborger, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster.

RODRIGUEZ PLACED ON RELEASE WAIVERS: Left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez was placed on unconditional release waivers today. If he is not claimed on release waivers, he will become a free agent on Thursday. Rodriguez was designated for assignment on July 29.
