The Rangers optioned right-hander Nick Martínez to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday to open a spot for left-hander Derek Holland, who will be activated Tuesday off the 60-day disabled list.
Holland, who is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Reds, will be making his first Major League start since June 20 after dealing with left shoulder inflammation. He posted a 4.50 ERA in three rehab starts with Round Rock.
Martinez is 1-3 with a 7.16 ERA in eight games (five starts) for the Rangers this season.
A corresponding 40-man roster move will be announced Tuesday.
