The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed outfielder Carlos Gomez on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday, for the excision of a cyst behind his right shoulder. To take his place on the 25-man roster, the team has recalled infielder Phil Gosselin (#23) from Triple-A Round Rock.
Gomez has not played since Sunday versus Houston due to the cyst issue. The first date he would be eligible to return to the active roster is August 26. Gomez has batted .251 with 15 home runs and 42 RBI over 86 games/83 starts with Texas this season. He was also on the disabled list from May 15-June 15 with a right hamstring strain.
Gosselin, 28, was received from the Pittsburgh Pirates in an August 12 waiver claim and optioned to Triple-A Round Rock, where he has gone 2-for-13 with a double and walk in 4 games with the Express. He had three stints with the Pirates this season (Opening Day-May 7, June 2-12, July 8-18), batting .150 with 2 RBI in 28 games, with action at first base, second base, and third base. Gosselin also batted .266 with a home run and 26 RBI in 63 games with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He was on option at Indianapolis when claimed by Texas.
Acquired by Pittsburgh from Arizona in February, the right-handed hitting Gosselin has a career major league average of .272 with 6 home runs and 33 RBI in 244 games with the Diamondbacks (2013-16) and Pirates (2017).
The Rangers have 39 players on the club's major league roster, along with four players on the 60-day disabled list.
