Rangers prospect Alfaro has career night

Catcher Jorge Alfaro, the Rangers' No. 1 prospect, collected a career-high five hits and drove in four runs Tuesday, leading Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach to a 12-6 victory against Salem.

Alfaro, ranked No. 31 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, finished the night 5-for-5 with two runs, a double and a triple. His previous career high for hits was three, which he had achieved 19 times.

Alfaro doubled in his first plate appearance and singled twice in the fourth as the Pelicans batted around in the inning. He hit a three-run triple in the sixth, leaving himself one chance to complete the cycle. But he settled for another single in the eighth, falling a home run shy of the achievement.

After a somewhat slow start to the season, Alfaro has improved in May. Four of his five home runs have come this month and he has an .848 OPS in May, nearly 200 points better than his April mark of .649. Overall this season, he is hitting .277/.325/.429.

Rangers' No. 5 prospect Nick Williams extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a double Tuesday. It is the longest hitting streak of his career and in the Carolina League this season.
