Rangers recall Jared Hoying from Round Rock; place Bryan Holaday on 15-day DL

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled outfielder Jared Hoying from Triple-A Round Rock. Hoying (#36) will be in uniform for Wednesday's game in Boston.

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled outfielder Jared Hoying from Triple-A Round Rock. Hoying (#36) will be in uniform for Wednesday's game in Boston.
 
To make room for Hoying, catcher Bryan Holaday has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 5 with a bruised left thumb.
 
In addition, left-handed pitcher Michael Roth cleared option waivers and has been optioned to Round Rock.
 
Hoying is batting .280 (68-243) with 9 homers and 43 RBI for Round Rock in 2016. He leads the Express in hits and RBI and is second in runs (37) and stolen bases (14). The left-handed batter made his major league debut with the Rangers earlier this season, hitting .217 (5-23) with 3 RBI in 11 games/6 starts in LF from May 23-June 23. Hoying is in his sixth season in the Texas organization.
 
Holaday is hitting .238 with 2 homers and 13 RBI in 30 games/25 starts at catcher this season.
 
Roth was purchased by the Rangers from Round Rock on July 3 and allowed 11 hits and 6 runs in 3.2 relief innings in his lone appearance on July 4 at Boston. He was designated for assignment on Tuesday with the intent to option him once he cleared waivers.
 
The Rangers' major league roster remains at the 40-man limit.
