Rangers receive INF Andy Parrino on waiver claim from Oakland A's; place LHP Dderek Holland on 60-day disabled list

Surprise, Ariz. - The Texas Rangers today received infielder Andy Parrino on a waiver claim from the Oakland Athletics. To make room for Parrino on the 40-man roster, the club has placed left-handed pitcher Derek Holland on the 60-day disabled list as he continues to rehab from left knee surgery.

Parrino, 28, appeared in 14 games with Oakland last season and also played in the majors with San Diego in 2011-12. The switch-hitter spent the bulk of last season at Triple-A Sacramento, batting .210 with 4 homers and 36 RBI in 108 games. Parrino has played at second base, third base, shortstop, left field, and right field in the major leagues. Over his minor league career, he has appeared at every position except catcher, including 2 games on the mound. He has 93 total games in his major league career, batting .186 (36-194) with one home run and 11 RBI.

Holland underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage behind his left knee on January 10. The surgery was performed by Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister at Medical Center Arlington, and consisted of a microfracture procedure in order to hasten the healing process. Holland sustained the injury in a fall at his home on January 7.   The first date he would be eligible to return to the active roster is May 29.

With these moves, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster plus 2 players on the 60-day disabled list.
