Lewis tentatively slated to start Saturday

BOSTON -- Pitcher Colby Lewis, with Triple-A Round Rock, was scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday. The Rangers were waiting to see how he made it through the session before making a decision, but Lewis is still expected to start on Saturday against the Astros.

"The likely scenario is he'll pitch this weekend," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We'll see how the bullpen [session] goes and then we'll make a decision."

Should Lewis start Saturday, it would be his first appearance in a Major League game since July 18, 2012. Since then, he has undergone surgery in 2012 to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow and hip replacement surgery last August.

"It's going to be a test," Daniels said. "The last few outings in Spring Training and [in two starts in the Minors], he looked good, but the big leagues are a different animal. But we're at the point where it makes sense to take a look."
