Texas Rangers add Robinson Rhirinos and Nick Martinez to active roster

Seattle, WA - The Texas Rangers announced today that right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock and catcher Robinson Chirinos has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Both Martinez and Chirinos will be active for today's game in Seattle.

Martinez has gone 1-1 with a 2.52 (7 ER/25.0 IP) ERA in 4 starts with Round Rock since being optioned by Texas on August 13. He was with the Rangers for one day on August 27 but did not pitch. Martinez is 7-7, 4.09 in 21 starts over 2 stints with Texas (start of season-7/2; 7/20-8/13) in 2015 and is 1-1, 2.90 in 6 total starts at Round Rock.

Chirinos has been on the disabled list since August 1 with a left shoulder strain. He was 1-for-11 in 4 games on rehab assignment at Round Rock and caught all 9 innings for the Express on Sunday. Chirinos is batting .226 with 9 homers and 33 RBI in 70 games/69 starts at catcher for the Rangers in 2015. His last major league game was July 30 vs. the New York Yankees.

With the addition of Martinez and Chirinos, Texas has 34 players on its active roster.
