Rangers place RHP Alexi Ogando on disabled list; select contract of LHP Travis Blackley from Triple-A Round Rock;

The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon the following three roster moves:

• RHP Alexi Ogando placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 14, with right shoulder inflammation
• LHP Travis Blackley contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock
• RHP Matt West recalled from High-A Myrtle Beach and placed on 60-day disabled list to continue rehabilitation for Tommy John ligament replacement surgery

Ogando took the loss in his last start on Tuesday against Milwaukee, allowing 4 runs in 6.1 innings. He is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA (31 ER/80.1 IP) over 15 games/starts for Texas this season. This is his third stint on the disabled list this season, the others from May 16-June 4 with right biceps tendinitis and June 9-July 22 with right shoulder inflammation. The first date he would be eligible to return is August 29.

Blackley, 30, is scheduled to make his Texas debut with a start tonight against his former club. He was acquired from Houston in exchange for cash considerations on Wednesday, August 14, and made one start for Round Rock on Thursday vs. Tacoma (ND, 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 SO, 40 pitches/22 strikes). 

Prior to Wednesday's trade, Blackley spent the entire season in the Houston organization after being designated for assignment by Oakland at the end of spring training. He was acquired by Houston in a trade with the A's on April 4 and has gone 1-1 with a 4.89 ERA (19 ER/35.0 IP) in 42 relief appearances for the Astros this season, allowing 10 home runs and 20 walks against 29 strikeouts. The Australia native is 8-8 with a 5.28 ERA (104 ER/177.1 IP) over 78 games/23 starts in his major league career with Seattle (2004), San Francisco (2007, 2012), Oakland (2012), and Houston (2013). Of Blackley's 8 career wins, 2 have come at Rangers Ballpark and 4 have been against Texas.

West, 24, has not pitched this season as he continues to recover from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery on August 22, 2012. A converted outfielder, he was originally selected by Texas in the second round of the 2007 June draft.

With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
