Rangers add 1B Davis on Minors deal

February 15th, 2016

First baseman Ike Davis signed a Minor League deal with the Rangers, the club announced Monday.
Davis, who will turn 29 in March, hit .229/.301/.350 in 74 games for Oakland last year. In six big league seasons -- the first 4 1/2 spent with the Mets -- he has posted a .239 average with 81 home runs.
A left-handed power hitter, Davis has made his living against right-handed pitching. He owns a .794 OPS against righties, compared with just a .578 mark against lefties. Of his 81 career homers, 69 have come against right-handers.
Davis' best season came in 2012, when he launched 32 homers and posted a .771 OPS. Since then, he hasn't hit more than 11 dingers in a year.
