Rangers sign Michael Zouzalik from open tryout

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Former University of Texas-Pan American right-hander Mike Zouzalik was signed to a 2013 minor league contract by the Texas Rangers, the parent club of the Round Rock Express announced Monday. Zouzalik, 22, was signed out of the Rangers open tryout held Aug. 22 at The Dell Diamond.

 

A product of Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park, Texas, Zouzalik was 7-3 with a 4.15 ERA (40 ER/86.2 IP) in 15 starts and seven relief appearances for UT-Pan American over two seasons. He was 4-1 with a 3.81 ERA (22 ER/52.0 IP) in eight starts and three relief outings as a senior in 20012. Zouzalik began his collegiate career at Cisco [Texas] Junior College.

 

Zouzalik was among more than 400 participants in the open tryout at The Dell Diamond. He will attend the Rangers Arizona Instructional League program in Surprise, Ariz., in September.
