The Rangers have signed free agent right-handed pitcher Allen Webster to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training camp.
The 26-year-old Webster pitched for Samsung in the Korean Baseball Organization last season, going 4-4 with a 5.70 ERA (45 ER/71.0 IP) over 12 games/starts. The North Carolina native has appeared in 28 games/23 starts in his major league career with Boston (2013-14) and Arizona (2015), compiling a 6.13 ERA (82 ER/120.1 IP). He was originally selected in the 18th round of the 2008 June draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and was a part of an August 25, 2012 trade between the Dodgers and Red Sox that involved Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. Webster has a 3.86 ERA in the minor leagues over his 9-year professional career, pitching almost exclusively as a starter.
In addition, INF Matt Duffy has been released from his minor league contract in order to pursue an opportunity in Japan with Nippon Professional Baseball.  
Duffy was received by the Rangers from the Houston Astros in a July 23 waiver claim, then designated for assignment on July 27 and assigned outright to Triple-A Round Rock on July 30. Along with going 0-for-3 in 3 games as a member of the Astros Opening Day roster in 2016, he combined to bat .229 (92-401) with 14 home runs and 52 RBI over 109 games with Triple-A Fresno and Round Rock.
