RHP Wilmer Font and C-INF Robinson Chirinos optioned to Round Rock

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers today announced that the club will activate infielder-outfielder Jeff Baker and outfielder Craig Gentry from the 15-day disabled list on Friday, when Texas opens a three-game series with Baltimore at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

To make room for Baker and Gentry, right-handed pitcher Wilmer Font and catcher-infielder Robinson Chirinos have been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Baker was placed on the 15-day DL on June 18, retroactive to June 13 with a right thumb sprain. He played in three games on rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco, going 2-for-11 with starts at 1B, DH, and LF. The right-handed batter is hitting .317 with 9 homers and 16 RBI in 37 games with the Rangers this season.

Gentry was placed on the 15-day DL on June 23, retroactive to June 21 with a left hand non-displaced fracture sustained when he was hit by a pitch on June 18 vs. Oakland. He played in four games on rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco, going 3-for-13 with a double and RBI with 3 starts in the OF and one at DH. The right-handed batter is hitting .216 with one homer and 9 RBI in 51 games with the Rangers this season.

Font pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in two appearances since his recall from Round Rock on July 11. Chirinos is hitting .154 in 10 games in two stints with Texas this season, the most recent beginning when he was recalled from Round Rock on June 18.
