ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are installing a new video board and new foul poles to Globe Life Park in Arlington for the upcoming season.
The LED video display will be located on the far left side of the center-field office building, above the visitors' bullpen, and should be visible from almost everywhere in the park. Daktronics of Brookings, S.D., will install the 34-by-94-foot board. The company provided the video boards installed in 2011 as well.
"We owe Texas Rangers fans nothing but the best fan experience when they visit Globe Life Park in Arlington," said Chuck Morgan, Rangers executive vice president of ballpark entertainment and productions. "The addition of a new Daktronics HD-quality video board in left field falls right in line with our ownership's commitment to having the best ballpark experience for our fans. Just as the Globe Life Park upgrades have done in previous years, the addition of this video board will add to the in-stadium experience and create a unique atmosphere that you cannot get at home."
The new board will feature the same layout as the current video displays in right and center fields, but it will have a higher brightness level to combat the direct sunlight that it will receive in left field. Its wide-angle visibility will appeal to a vast majority of seats in Globe Life Park.
The park also is getting new foul poles for the first time since opening as the Ballpark in Arlington in 1994. The Rangers will replace the original foul poles that were brought over from Arlington Stadium and have been in use since 1972.
The new foul poles will still be 92 feet high, but they will be double the width to provide more strength. The poles are made of structural pipe and are fabricated by Bratton Steel of Dallas. They will be installed by Taurus Commercial, Inc., of Farmers Branch, Texas.
Fans will be able to purchase pieces of the left-field foul pole during the 2016 Texas Rangers Fan Fest. That event will take place at Globe Life Park in Arlington on Saturday, January 23 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m CT. Tickets are on sale at texasrangers.com/fanfest. The foul pole will be sold in one-foot sections for $100 each, with the proceeds of the sale benefitting the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.
