ARLINGTON -- Rangers pitcher Tyson Ross is going to get one more start on his medical rehabilitation assignment before being considered as an option for the Major League club.
Ross will start for Triple-A Round Rock either Friday or Saturday against Oklahoma City. It will be his fourth start for the Express. Ross went 5 1/3 innings and threw 93 pitches against New Orleans on Saturday. Over three outings, he has pitched 13 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits and 10 walks while striking out nine.
"I want to make sure I get everything dialed in before I'm activated," Ross said. "My arm feels good, I've got my pitch count up, and I've got the innings in. ... I just need the reps."
Ross underwent right shoulder surgery on Oct. 13, 2016, for thoracic-outlet syndrome. The Rangers signed him to a one-year contract in the offseason, but his return was delayed when he developed back spasms in April and was shut down for a few weeks.

"Sometimes it takes a bit longer than anticipated before you're ready to go," Ross said.
The Rangers' rotation is still in flux. Yu Darvish pitches against the Mets on Wednesday with Andrew Cashner and Martin Perez scheduled for Friday and Saturday, respectively, against the Nationals. Dillon Gee is likely for Sunday, although the Rangers are waiting to see how he does Tuesday against the Mets.
Darvish is scheduled for Monday against the Astros, but the Rangers are undecided for Tuesday. Austin Bibens-Dirkx and Nick Martinez are the leading candidates, but both could be needed in relief before then.
Rangers sign Frieri
The Rangers, trying to increase their bullpen options, have signed right-hander Ernesto Frieri to a Minor League contract and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock.
Frieri was pitching for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees' organization before opting out of his contract Friday. He was 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA and seven saves in 17 relief appearances, allowing 13 hits and recording 24 strikeouts in 21 innings.
Frieri was once an outstanding reliever for the Padres and Angels. From 2009-13, he pitched in 228 games, with 60 saves, a 2.76 ERA and a .191 opponents' batting average. But he fell off in 2014-15, posting a 6.37 ERA while allowing 17 home runs in 65 innings. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2015.

• Infielder Hanser Alberto is hitting .438 (7-for-16) in his first four Minor League games on medical rehabilitation assignment. He has been sidelined since Opening Day with a sore right shoulder.
• Carlos Gomez, on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring, ran arc patterns and did lateral movements Tuesday. The next big step is running the bases, which Gomez is hoping to do Thursday. That could determine if he's ready to start playing games in the Minor Leagues.
• Rangers manager Jeff Banister on third baseman Adrian Beltre, who was activated off the disabled list a week ago and is hitting .391 in six games: "He's gotten progressively better as far as how he moves in the batter's box and moving around the infield. No complaints."
