ARLINGTON -- Rangers pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx could get his first Major League start on Wednesday against the Rays.
Manager Jeff Banister said the Rangers were leaning toward Bibens-Dirkx over Dillon Gee to fill the spot created when A.J. Griffin went on the disabled list with a strained left intercostal muscle. Bibens-Dirkx has made five relief appearances since being called up on May 7 and has a 3.97 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and a .195 opponents' batting average.
"We like the way he has pitched," Banister said. "We like the look of it. We feel like he has built up credibility with his teammates, we like the look of his stuff and how he has pitched."
Gee was recalled on Saturday and is working out of the bullpen. He made nine starts at Round Rock and was 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA. He did not allow a run in his last 13 2/3 innings over two starts.

Griffin's spot in the rotation will likely be filled by Tyson Ross, but he may not be ready to come off the disabled list. He allowed six runs over 3 1/3 innings while starting for Triple-A Round Rock against Omaha on Monday. He allowed six hits and five walks while striking out two over 86 pitches.
It was his second start on a rehab assignment while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
"Physically he felt fine," Banister said. "His command was not as sharp."
The Rangers have not decided if Ross will make his next start at the Major League level. The Rangers are in an unusual stretch where they have three days off during the first eight days of June. That allows them unusual flexibility in their rotation with the option of going with four starters until June 13.
Leclerc getting close
Right-handed reliever Jose Leclerc, who is on the disabled list with a strained right index finger, threw a scoreless inning for Double-A Frisco on Sunday. He allowed just one hit and threw 12 pitches.
"Everything felt good," Leclerc said. "I was able to throw the ball where I wanted to throw it."
Leclerc, who has a 2.31 ERA in 10 appearances with the Rangers, is scheduled to pitch another inning for Frisco on Tuesday.

• Andrew Cashner's win on Sunday in Toronto snapped a streak of 18 straight starts on the road without a win. That was the longest active such streak in the Majors.
• Carlos Gomez, who has been on the disabled list for two weeks with a strained right hamstring muscle, is able to do some light jogging as part of his daily workout. He is hoping to get medical clearance this week to increase his effort.
• Joey Gallo's home run on Monday was his 15th of the season and 22nd in 103 career games. The only other two Rangers to have 22 home runs in their first 103 games were Dave Hostetler and Chris Davis.
